NA Graduate Selected to Become Lone Tree’s Top Cop

Kirk Wilson, a graduate of the 253rd Session, was selected to become Lone Tree’s new police chief. Wilson was chosen after the city conducted a nationwide recruiting effort and a lengthy narrowing process. Wilson competed against 78 applicants and found himself among a top three that included another Rocky Mountain Chapter alum. His appointment will be made January 17th, 2017. Congratulations, Chief!

At the time of his selection he was a commander at the Colorado Springs Police Department heading up their Investigations Division. A short biography follows.

Commander Kirk Wilson began his law enforcement career in 1995 with the Colorado Springs Police Department. Commander Wilson has experience in the Patrol, Professional Standards, and the Investigations Divisions. Over the course of his career, Commander Wilson has served as a patrol officer, Master Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Crimes against Children/Adult Sex Crimes detective and a Homicide detective. Commander Wilson was promoted to sergeant in 2005 and supervised at the Falcon Patrol Division and in Internal Affairs. After being promoted to lieutenant in 2008, Commander Wilson managed the Internal Affairs Unit, Sand Creek Patrol Division, Shift III, and then the Violent Crimes Section. In 2012, Commander Wilson was promoted to his current rank, returning to the Sand Creek Patrol Division. Commander Wilson earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Metropolitan State College in Denver, majoring in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement. In 2013, Commander Wilson successfully completed the FBI National Academy and later that year completed his Master’s Degree in Public Administration at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Commander Wilson is currently assigned as the Commander for the Investigations Division.

Lone Tree, a town of 13,000, is located near I-25 and C470. The police department is 49 people strong.
