Tom Rizzo--Featured Trainer

“Ivory Tower”

Acclaimed speaker Tom Rizzo leverages his own life experiences and personal successes to bring to you the Ivory Tower. While a relatively young man, Tom became his mother's primary caregiver after she was stricken with cancer and cared for her through her death. Today he still cares for his wife, who is afflicted with medical disabilities of her own, as well as his four children. Despite those realities affecting his lifestyle, he is an active-duty police captain commanding his agency's detective division, a lecturer, and author.

Captain Rizzo finds, like many of us have observed, that one of the pitfalls of leadership is that leaders can become quickly separated from the daily operations they command (and even their own families)--what he dubs the Ivory Tower Effect.

The Ivory Tower will depart from the standard fare of leader training that focuses on a leader's "management of a position," and draw attention instead to leadership tenets that focus on the human component. Students of all ranks and at all stages of their journey will learn how to practically apply  comprehensive analyses to leadership theories and then apply them for the students' and their entire agency's benefit. Ivory Tower teaches transformational leadership strategies officers can use to influence personnel to allow them to expand their potential to heights they never thought possible. Students will also learn various methods to properly address personal wellness, so that it aligns with the obligations of our profession serves to achieve a profound effect - multi-dimensional wellness. Through his teaching and applying his instruction, we become the best TOTAL version of ourselves, which in turn, allows us to perform at our best, while productively influencing others.

Second-day Training
Street Tactics for Police Administrators: Leadership in 2022

Chief Edward Delmore, presenting.

No jurisdiction is immune from critical incidents. Bad things happen.

On the other hand some officer involved shootings, in-custody deaths, pursuit related fatalities, etc.… can be prevented. In this program Chief Delmore provides the history of law enforcement tactics for a number of high-risk incidents and will also provide the evolution of those tactics arriving at today’s “best practices.” Extensive use of video examples will be used.

Chief Delmore will examine updated case law that police administrators must insure that their personnel know and understand and can articulate.

The chief will provide instruction in the use of objectively-reasonable and constitutionally-sound techniques that administrators in-turn should insure that their subordinates are trained in regarding conducting proactive policing – as opposed to racial profiling.

Recruiting and retaining officers has become a significant problem for most law enforcement agencies in the United States. The chief will recommend some effective recruiting and retention techniques.

Active member registration is for active, dues-paying chapter members in good standing with the Rocky Mountain Chapter. This class of registration includes access to all training, meals (breakfasts, lunch on Thursday and Friday, dinner banquet on Thursday), Friday business meeting, and hospitality room on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. An employee of a Wyoming or Colorado law enforcement agency may register as an active member and enjoy the same access as an active member. Members in good standing with other FBINAA chapters are welcome to register as active members.

Retired member registration is for retired, dues-paying members of the Rocky Mountain Chapter. This class of registration includes the same access and benefits as an active member registration at a reduced tuition to encourage our retired brothers and sisters to stay active in their association.

One-day training and lunch registration is designed for active members as well as non-member law enforcement employees who would benefit from a specific day of training. This class of registration includes access to one day of the training with breakfast and lunch.

Spouse registration accompanies a retired or active member registration. This class of registration includes access to spouse activities and the same meals as are provided to the member. Spouses are welcome to attend the training classes as well.

Vendor registration is for vendor representatives. This class of registration includes access to all members to maximize contact with conference delegates. Vendors are invited to all meals, are welcome at other events and are encouraged to mix and mingle to their hearts' content. All representatives are asked to register to cover the chapter's expenses. (Note: this is a badge fee only. Vendor exhibit space is a separate charge.)

Golf Tournament

Play a round of golf before the event on Wednesday, September 21st at the  Lakota Links, in New Castle (15 minutes from Glenwood Springs).

The Lakota Links Golf Club is a stunning golf course--but don't take our word for it. NBC's Golfpass ranked it the #6 best golf courses in Colorado. And Garfield County  residents rank it #1. Come see for yourself!

$80 registration gets you lunch, golf, cart and prizes.
Lunch will be at 11 at the Lakota Lookout, the club's restaurant venue. First tee time is 1230. Reservations must be made by August 31st.

Spouse Activities

Conference cost includes two breakfasts, two lunches, dinner banquet and conference gift along with a spouse activity. Spouses are welcome at any of the training sessions. A special activity just for spouses is being planned. Details are forthcoming.
